HEALTHCARE
Smart Energy.
Healthier Outcomes.
WHY ENERGY STRATEGY IS A HEALTH STRATEGY
Hospitals use nearly 2.5 times as much energy per square foot as commercial buildings. As facilities age and operating conditions grow more challenging, utility volatility, extreme weather disruptions, and new compliance requirements, healthcare systems need more than maintenance. They need a plan that protects revenue and enables innovation. Operating rooms drive the enterprise’s economics, and they demand resilient power, precise ventilation, and dependable controls. Meanwhile, systems must fund both new clinical technologies and critical infrastructure at the same time. Veregy helps healthcare providers:
Lower energy spend by 20–40% through efficiency retrofits and renewable integration.
Maintain compliance with decarbonization and seismic standards.
Enhance patient comfort and safety with upgraded HVAC, building automation, and improved indoor air quality.
Reduce unergy use and eliminate single points of failure with redundant fan walls that protect critical airflow.
HEALTH UPGRADES THAT SAVE
Lighting
Upgrading inefficient lighting is one of the simplest, highest-return ways to cut energy use and operating costs. Veregy’s lighting engineers will test and validate upgrades in nursing stations first, then design a scalable solution that improves light quality, comfort, and long-term savings across the facility.
BENCHMARKING
Benchmarking and long-term energy planning give hospital leaders a clear, comparable view of where energy dollars are going—and where they’re being wasted—so capital can be directed to the highest-impact projects without disrupting care. Veregy benchmarks utility spend and performance across every hospital in your system or campus, then identifies and prioritizes energy conservation measures and infrastructure improvements that reduce operating cost, improve reliability, and support compliance.
MECHANICAL
Old, inefficient heating and cooling systems are a major source of wasted energy and avoidable cost. Veregy evaluates existing equipment and controls, then delivers turnkey solutions from recommissioning and targeted retrofits to full replacement, often incorporating fan-wall upgrades that improve part-load efficiency and reduce single points of failure through built-in redundancy.
INDOOR AIR QUALITY
Even though indoor air quality isn’t always visible to the public, it’s essential to hospital safety, reliability, and patient care, especially in operating rooms, where proper air changes, filtration, and pressure control help reduce airborne contamination, maintain sterile conditions, and support temperature/humidity requirements for staff and equipment. Veregy improves ventilation performance through controls, monitoring, and validation—optimizing air-change delivery and schedules where allowed while maintaining code and infection-control requirements. These targeted, low-disruption improvements typically deliver a 3–5 year payback through reduced energy use and fewer comfort and compliance issues.
CONTROLS
A well-controlled building runs more efficiently and is easier to operate—reducing energy use and simplifying maintenance. Veregy designs and installs open, non-proprietary building automation systems that work with all major control manufacturers, so you’re not locked into a single vendor. We integrate HVAC, lighting, metering, and critical systems into a unified platform that improves visibility, alarms, scheduling, and performance across your facility.
SOLAR / BATTERY STORAGE
Solar and battery storage reduce purchased electricity and give hospitals more control over energy cost and risk. For CFOs, that means lower utility spend, insulation from rate escalation and peak-demand charges, and fewer costly disruptions—by keeping critical loads online during outages and smoothing volatility when the grid is stressed. Veregy designs and delivers solar and storage systems that prioritize hospital resiliency, align with financial goals, and integrate with existing electrical infrastructure and operations.
BUILDING ENVELOPE
A tight building envelope reduces the outside air and moisture that drive up HVAC loads—so you’re conditioning patient spaces, not fighting constant infiltration. For hospitals, that means more stable temperatures and humidity, fewer comfort complaints, less strain on aging equipment, and lower energy spend—while supporting sensitive areas like ORs, pharmacies, and imaging suites. Veregy identifies leakage and envelope weak points, then implements targeted repairs that deliver measurable savings without disrupting care.
ELECTRICAL
Upgrading inefficient lighting is one of the simplest and most effective methods of reducing energy use and cost. Our expert lighting engineers will design a solution designed to save money and increase occupant comfort.
BENCHMARKING
A properly controlled building is more efficient and easier to manage saving on energy and operations and maintenance. We design and install non-propriety building automation systems, so clients are not locked in with any one equipment manufacturer. Using our industry leading Digital Services, we can help you integrate your entire facility into a smart building of the future with seamless operations.
MECHANICAL
INDOOR AIR QUALITY
Even though your building’s indoor air quality operations are not as easily seen by the public, they are critical for hospital functionality, safety, and and patient care. This includes proper ventilation and filtration using controls and monitoring.
CONTROLS
A properly controlled building is more efficient and easier to manage saving on energy and operations and maintenance. We design and install non-propriety building automation systems, so clients are not locked in with any one equipment manufacturer. Using our industry leading Digital Services, we can help you integrate your entire facility into a smart building of the future with seamless operations.
SOLAR / BATTERY STORAGE
Along with reducing energy use, Solar and Battery storage systems allow you to create your own. Our industry leading solar engineers have the experience to design an efficient, cost effective, solar solution for your facilities, along with specialized resiliency strategies for hospitals.
BUILDING ENVELOPE
A properly sealed building means you’re only maintaining the temperature inside and not the whole outdoors. With decades of experience in building envelope solutions you can count on us to design and implement a system that keeps dollars from leaking out.
FUNDING GUIDANCE YOU CAN COUNT ON
We help healthcare systems select the right funding and procurement path for each project—balancing speed, risk, and budget certainty:
- Energy Performance Contracting (EPC)
- Bond Financing
- Energy as a Service (EaaS)
- Capital Leases
- Utility Incentives, Rebates, and Grants
- Solar/Storage PPAs
Let’s create facilities for optimal patient care.
HEALTHCARE FACILITIES WE SERVE
UCLA Medical Center

At Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center (1.26M SF), Veregy delivered an RCx/MBCx project under the UC/CSU/IOU Energy Efficiency Partnership Program, supported by an eQuest model and ASHRAE Level II audit. The team optimized HVAC operations (equipment scheduling and key setpoint resets) and sustained results with BAS-integrated monitoring/analytics, delivering $1.8M in energy savings under a firm fixed price contract.
Mayer's Memorial District

The project includes a solar grid with provisions for future battery storage to enhance energy reliability and grid independence further. Over 25 years, the project is projected to save MMHD more than $5.6 million in electricity costs, supported by over $1.5 million in combined state and federal rebates. These savings are expected to yield a net benefit of $4.65 million to the healthcare district, reinforcing its commitment to long-term fiscal responsibility and environmental stewardship.
Columbus Eye Center

Veregy collaborated with Alliance Realty Group, the Property Management Company for The Eye Center to address Building Automation issues they had been experiencing since the facility opened in 2005. Veregy designed and implemented a Turnkey Energy Solution for this 100,000 sq. ft. medical and surgical facility. In addition to resolving Building Automation concerns, a strategic plan was implemented to make upgrades to the surgical floor.
Comm. Regional Med. Center

Community Regional Medical Center partnered with Veregy starting in 2020 to address deferred maintenance and aging mechanical systems while minimizing disruption to patient care. The multi-phase program includes ECM scope development, central plant replacement, campus-wide LED lighting upgrades, cogeneration management, and energy benchmarking support, and is projected to deliver a 35% reduction in energy costs versus baseline.
