Veregy Partners With Flagstaff Schools for a $15.7M Energy Project

Flagstaff Unified School District (FUSD) recently launched a $15.7 million energy upgrade project in partnership with Veregy, designed to deliver significant utility savings, environmental benefits, and an enhanced learning environment across FUSD’s facilities.

PARTNERSHIP HIGHLIGHT

This initiative builds on a strategic collaboration between FUSD and Veregy, to modernize infrastructure and increase operational efficiency. Through this 20-year term performance contract, the district will invest in advanced technologies and facility improvements with guaranteed, verifiable savings that redirect energy costs into educational priorities.

UTILITY SAVINGS AND FINANCIAL IMPACT

The energy upgrade partnership is expected to deliver more than $39.6M in savings over the lifetime of the project. These savings will offset project costs and allow the district to reinvest in the district’s student achievement. The improvements support classroom comfort, reliability, and reduce maintenance demands.

FLAGSTAFF ENVIRONMENTAL AND COMMUNITY BENEFITS

Environmental impact is a key driver of the project. The upgrades will reduce greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 6.7M gallons of gasoline saved and 3,461 tons of waste recycled instead of landfilled. These savings highlight FUSD’s commitment to sustainability and community stewardship. CO₂ reductions will also contribute to a healthier environment for students and residents throughout the Flagstaff area.

PROJECT ENERGY CONSERVATION MEASURES

  • Solar energy installation at ten district sites using nearly $3M in federal investment tax credits.
  • Installation of intelligent LED lighting with dynamic classroom controls for optimal energy use.
  • HVAC replacement and upgrades to improve air quality and classroom comfort.
  • Upgraded energy management controls to optimize building performance.
  • Water conservation upgrades to more efficient fixtures such as low-flow toilet, faucet flow adapters, urinals, and showerheads.

These measures will create brighter, more comfortable learning environments while reducing environmental impact and utility costs. By modernizing facilities and focusing on sustainability, FUSD reinforces its leadership in responsible resource management and educational excellence.

This partnership between Veregy and FUSD demonstrates how innovative technology and a shared commitment to sustainability can drive long-term value for students, staff, and the broader community.
