Bio:

Amanda Maki is a Senior Energy Engineer for the Consulting Energy Engineering team at Veregy. She provides commissioning, retro-commissioning, energy auditing, and energy data analytics for energy and renewable projects. Currently, she is working on energy audits and retro-commissioning projects on existing buildings for educational and governmental clients. She has experience in developing energy baselines, completing energy saving calculations, and performing pre-functional testing. Ms. Maki also has experience in commissioning newly installed systems including performing functional performance testing and trend reviews.

Each engagement demonstrates Veregy’s role in guiding clients from initial assessment through design, implementation, and ongoing support, ensuring long-term performance, cost savings, and value for the communities they serve.

Alhambra Unified School District

Veregy completed an Investment Grade Audit for Alhambra Elementary School District (K-8) and assessed whether the lighting, water, and HVAC systems would be updated or modified in order to serve the 14,000 students in this district. Due to the American Recovery Reinvestment Act, this school district was able to use QZAB dollars to finance this energy saving project. Existing lighting was retrofitted with new LED lamps and drivers. Water modifications included retrofitting the existing plumbing system with upgraded fixtures, valves and drains to reduce water usage. And 108 pieces of old HVAC equipment was replaced with new high efficiency equipment. This started as a one-phase job, but because of Veregy’s attention to detail and cost efficiencies, Alhambra has turned to Veregy for additional phases to update and reenergize the school district’s older buildings. One of the benefits of performing these projects is that the equipment will perform better and use less electricity. These updates not only saved the district close to 400,000 in energy costs every month, but it also offered the latest in energy technologies for an aging district.

District and County of San Francisco

Veregy conducted a Fuel Switching Study for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) to help assess how to meet the City’s net zero greenhouse gas emissions goal by 2040. For this study, Veregy benchmarked and analyzed the current natural gas usage in the City and County of San Francisco’s municipal building portfolio, which represents 70% of San Francisco’s municipal greenhouse gas emissions and identified fuel switching retrofit option.

The report provided high-level overview of technologies for fuel switching through retrofits, prioritization of municipal buildings for further investigations, and the carbon reduction potential across the entire municipal building portfolio. Veregy presented the results of this study to the San Francisco Municipal Green Building Task Force and is currently supporting the implementation of a pilot fuel switching project at the San Francisco Zoo.

Covina Valley Unified School District

We have been providing on-going energy consulting and energy efficiency professional services to C-VUSD.

Highlights include:

  • Completing EV School Bus and Fleet Summary Report
  • Providing commissioning services for new, efficient heat pump HVAC units and HVAC controls
  • Providing third-party verification for new solar PV systems as they come online
  • Reviewing electricity purchase options to prioritize clean, carbon-free electricity
  • Ongoing HVAC equipment operation and scheduling reviews to ensure efficient and appropriate use of equipment to realize energy and carbon savings
  • Supporting Districts in applying for and implementing CalSHAPE Phase 2 grants totaling $6 million per District to replace old HVAC units with new, efficient, gas-free, heat pump HVAC units.
